The story was directed by Christopher Nola in which Robert Angier and Alfred Borden played as two enthusiast magicians guide under John Cutter, an engineer who designs stage magic. It was held in the ’90s.On one of the occasions, Angier's wife Julia McCullough performed a water tank trick, where Borden ties a risker knot in her hand which leads to death. From that point, they went into the opposite side.

In one hand Angier with assistants, Olivia and Cutter booked stages to revel his magic tricks and gain the audience and on the other hand, Borden fell love with Sara as well as get married blessed with a daughter. Borden suffered in times of lack of money. So he decided to start performing magic tricks.

Robert Angier and Alfred Borden

Borden performed a two-door trick in a stage and left all amazed where Angier has hidden in the mob and has no idea how he does that. It goes well and every time both of them come to one’s magic show with a mask. Like that, Angier performed a Transported Man trick as well as Borden was there in the mob to see how he does it. He went backstage and spot Angier fell in the water tank and the tank gets locked. Borden saw these but before helping his past friend, he died. Due to this, Borden was arrested.

In the climax, we learn that Fallon was Borden’s twin brother who’d swap their identities often. This shows Angier’s transformation from a husband who wanted to avenge his wife’s death, to an egoistic magician.

That’s why every magic trick has a third act, the hardest part, the part we call “The Prestige”

The secret impresses no one. The trick you use it for is everything
